Social Security

The Social Security system is heading toward a financial crisis, and no one in the U.S. government denies it. Action needs to be taken to guarantee that the system will remain viable without bankrupting our children and grandchildren. While difficult choices will have to be made, I will work hard to ensure that promises made to current recipients are not broken and that future generations also will be able to benefit from this program.

Social Security is the cornerstone of what many Americans look forward to calling "retirement". Social Security began as a pension program some 70 years ago, but over the years has been expanded to include disability and survivor benefits. The scope of the program will need to be reexamined for future generations, especially as Americans grow older and continue to live longer more productive lives well beyond the traditional retirement age.
