Immigration

We are a nation of immigrants. However, illegal immigration is both an economic and a national security issue, and securing our borders must be our top priority. All aliens caught trying to enter illegally must be quickly deported. I do not support amnesty or any special pathway to citizenship for those who have come to this country illegally.

However, as a nation of immigrants, we must continue to welcome legal immigrants and give priority to those legal immigrants who advance our interests by reducing unnecessary bureaucratic restrictions placed on their immigration status.

The federal government absolutely must enforce existing laws. I am against local governments providing benefits and protections to illegal aliens, and I believe that federal funds should be withheld from those local governments that willfully violate federal laws. Further, I would vote to severely limit or remove altogether any provision of benefits and protections to illegal aliens, such as Social Security, Medicaid, Food Stamps, higher education tuition or other social services that are free to our poorer citizens

I support measures to assist employers in identifying illegal aliens, and fines and penalties for employers that knowingly hire illegal aliens.

I support measures to increase the number of border agents and law enforcement personnel to tackle this urgent problem.
