March 21, 2008
To the Voters of the 10th District, The positive responses I have received during my extensive visits around this District over the last four months have been overwhelming. I want to personally thank you for your interest in my campaign, your support, and your prayers. I look forward to being your "voice" in Congress. As the challenger in this race, it is necessary for me to draw a clear distinction between myself and my opponent. I must compare my qualifications and character with those of the incumbent, Patrick McHenry. As part of that effort, I have examined the incumbent's record, the promises he has made, the individuals he associates with, and other activities that I believe reflect on his fitness for service. My candidacy has from the beginning has been about restoring maturity, integrity and decency to our seat in Congress. I have extensively researched all of the articles on my website and in each newsletter. In fact, I provide independent sources to assure the readers of the truthfulness of each article which may call into question the fitness of my opponent. If you have not had the opportunity to read my previous newsletters, I encourage you to do so on my website, and decide for yourself. The details of the incumbent's activities compared to my background and character are information I believe every educated voter needs to know prior to deciding who should be their voice in Congress. I have consistently refused to publish or discuss anything concerning the incumbent that I cannot independently verify, although I have been asked many times about the numerous rumors concerning him. I stand by the truthfulness of these newsletters. I would hope that each voter will use this information to make an informed decision. Afterward, I believe that you will agree with me- we can, and we must, do better- for our District, and our Nation. Lance SigmonRepublican Candidate for 10th Congressional District |

Sigmon champions veteran issues, 'family values' at CVCC forumVoters attending a political forum on March 18th at Catawba Valley Community College left satisfied that at least one Republican congressional candidate, Lance Sigmon, was willing to answer their questions. Also invited to this event, which had been scheduled as a debate six weeks ago, was incumbent Patrick McHenry. Mr. McHenry chose not to attend, claiming that Catawba County was not the “proper venue.” Former county commissioner David Stewart served as moderator. Sigmon drew applause from the 50+ attendees as he expressed his determination to improve veteran’s health care and to work to bring a mobile health care unit to the District. “I haven’t looked into the cost yet, but frankly, I don’t care what the cost is,” Sigmon said, “We owe it to our military members to take care of them if they’ve served their country or been wounded or injured in the line of duty.” Sigmon also answered questions on immigration--“the first thing we must do is secure the borders." Audience members also asked his positions on: eliminating the inheritance tax, evaluating the fairness of trade agreements, making tax cuts permanent, the fair tax proposal, developing domestic sources of oil, the federal role in education, and encouraging economic growth. On the importance of family values and providing for the needs of families, Sigmon stated: “It’s important to give them a safe, stable environment and strong Christian values. He also compared his maturity and vast life experiences with the current congressman. The audience also expressed approval when Sigmon promised “not to take campaign contributions from groups that have no interests in our district.” Sigmon noted the hypocrisy of the current congressman accepting a campaign donation of $50,000 from the National Beer Wholesalers Association after attacking an opponent in 2004 for taking a similar contribution. Sigmon also pledged not to meddle in local primary races, stating that it was "not acceptable for a Congressman to try to influence the outcome of a local race." |
