What Others are Asking...How do you feel about the Bill of Rights.....yes, especially the Second Amendment.....and preserving the Constitution as it was written? My Response:Clearly our founding fathers and the original colonies felt that the Bill of Rights was critical to insuring that the federal government did not become too oppressive. During my career as an attorney, I have personally defended and fought for many individual's rights as spelled out in these amendments. I strongly support the Second Amendment, and believe in the individual's right to keep and bear arms. When this amendment was written, it was considered every man's duty to have arms with which to protect himself and his family, and also to protect our nation against attack if necessary. I believe that we have too many gun-control laws which only serve to restrict law-abiding citizens without doing anything to deter criminals from obtaining weapons with which to commit crimes. I do not believe that additional gun-control laws will have any benefit in deterring crime. Some of our gun control laws are ineffective because they are unenforceable until after a crime has been committed. Why should we expect a criminal who is planning to commit a violent crime to worry about whether he has obtained his weapon legally?? If he kills someone and is charged with murder, I doubt if he will be concerned with an additional charge of obtaining a weapon without a license! We absolutely must find a way to stop violent crime without restricting the rights of our law-abiding citizens. We need to support and defend the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as they were written and intended to be used by our founding fathers. So you know...The Sigmon for Congress campaign has submitted numerous articles in the past month to all the news media in the 10th District. Only one paper (that we know of at this time) has published any of the articles - most newspapers have published none. If you have not seen any articles in your local paper - please contact them and ask why! In order to make an educated decision on the candidates, you, the voter, deserve to have all the information available. The new media also have a duty to provide fair and impartial coverage of both candidates and political parties.
